VRATZA LIMESTONE

As we typed in our previous articles about the treatment of Bulgarian limestone in our selections "Euro Beige" and "Euro Clear", today we will show you a short history of Bulgarian limestone and our other selections of it.

For starters, I will focus on the main characteristics of limestone, also its structure, origin, and its applications in daily life.

STONE STRUCTURE
Limestone is a sedimentary rock composed largely of the minerals calcite and aragonite, which are different crystal forms of calcium carbonate. Many limestones are composed from skeletal fragments of marine organisms such as coral or foraminifera.
Limestone makes up about 10% of the total volume of all sedimentary rocks. The solubility of limestone in water and weak acid solutions leads to karst landscapes, in which water erodes the limestone over thousands to millions of years. Most cave systems are through limestone bedrock.
1       Normal limestoneis used as a building material or for the production of lime and cement.
2       Shell limestone - it differ remnants of shells of various animals. Because of their beautiful appearance is mainly used for lining walls, facades, fountains and more.
3       Chalk - This limestone is very soft and is mainly used for the production of chalk.
